WEBAug 25, 2022 · My best piece if advice when looking for trains is that you get what you pay for. The cheaper the locomotive, the more likely its going to have cheap plastic internal gears that break soon (Bachmann, im looking at you). $150+ is my personal threshold for good quality HO (varies depending in if its steam or diesel).

WEBBack then, railway modellers (including the great John Allen) were just starting to figure out how to build "proper" model train layouts rather than simple toy train layouts. If you're serious about model trains then I recommend you go for something more modern instead, as most of these old layouts did not stand the test of time.

WEBAug 15, 2022 · Try to put at least a few inches of straight track between a curve and any switch. If you don't you're going to see a lot of derailments as cars coming out of the curve tend to pick the points on the switch.
