A Dallas County District judge on Thursday denied Attorney General Ken Paxton’s attempt to block a new State Fair of Texas policy restricting who can bring guns to the 24-day event. The ban will go into effect when the fair kicks off next week.

With the State Fair of Texas beginning in Dallas in eight days, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s attempts to block the fair’s new gun policy have been denied by a Dallas County district judge.

The dispute boils down to whether the fair is subject to the same restrictions around prohibiting guns as the city.

Texas AG Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the State Fair of Texas and the city of Dallas late last month over the fair's policy that prohibits most visitors from carrying guns or other weapons.

Attorney General Ken Paxton's office wanted a judge to put a stop to the State Fair's gun ban before the fair opens Sept. 27.

A Dallas County judge is hearing arguments Thursday on whether to issue an injunction that would force the State Fair of Texas to allow visitors to carry guns.
