The state called their final witnesses to the stand in the trial of the Rankin County teen accused of killing her mother. On Thursday, the state brought forth expert witnesses in rebuttal. They said there were contradictions in Carly Gregg’s story after her arrest in March 2024.

Carly Gregg, now 15, is on trial in Rankin County Circuit Court for the March 2024 fatal shooting of her mother, Ashley Smylie, who police say was shot twice in the face. Gregg then allegedly shot her stepfather and ran from the scene.

Carly Gregg allegedly killed her mother and shortly after took her phone to text her stepfather, asking, "When will you be home, honey?" In the US, the trial of the 15-year-old has started. The girl cried in court.
