Villeneuve was nominated for Best Director in the past, for his 2016 sci-fi drama Arrival, which earned one Oscar win, for Best Sound Editing, from a total of eight nominations. D

This year’s Oscar nominations are set to be revealed on January 17. According to Brolin’s IMDB, he has two films in production, Weapon and The Running Man, and will more than likely appear in the third Dune film. So, either the Academy gets it right, or else we riot.

Conspicuously missing from that capacious list was, of course, Best Director — a truly mystifying omission on the part of the Academy considering Villeneuve pulled off the impossible by successfully adapting Frank Herbert's supposedly "unfilmable" book.
