One of the world’s richest people has been indicted in the U.S. on charges he duped investors in a massive solar energy project in India by concealing that it was being facilitated by an alleged bribery scheme.

Authorities said Adani and seven other defendants, including his nephew, agreed to pay about $265 million in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield billions in profit.
