Two new modular nuclear reactors, dubbed SMR-300s, are planned for co-location with the restarting Palisades Plant by 2030.

Southwest Michigan could become the first place in the U.S. to have a small nuclear reactor. The owner of the Palisades nuclear plant, Holtec International, recently signed a strategic agreement with Hyundai E&C to build two small modular reactors.

Holtec wants to install the nation's first small nuclear reactors at the Palisades plant in Southwest Michigan, but first it would have to win regulatory approval.
