Liverpool's spending spree has put head coach Arne Slot under increased pressure to repeat title success, says BBC Sport chief football writer Phil McNulty.

A Chelsea team that finished fourth last term and won the Conference League has been strengthened by a £250m summer spending spree. The Blues spent almost £200m on the signings of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Jorrel Hato and Liam Delap, while bolstering Enzo Maresca’s squad with a number of other additions.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed a deal has been struck to sign 18-year-old centre back Giovanni Leoni from Parma. It emerged on Wednesday that Liverpool had agreed to pay €35 million (£30.2 million, $41 million) to sign Leoni after his breakout season at Parma, which yielded 17 Serie A appearances and one goal for good measure.
