It's actually good news that NASA spotted a sizable asteroid with a (small) chance of hitting Earth in 2032. It means our asteroid-sleuthing telescopes are working.

NASA has detected an asteroid called 2024 YR4, which has a 1 in 83 chance of impacting Earth in 2032, potentially releasing 8 megatons of energy and devastating a major city, although it's too small to end human civilization.

The asteroid, dubbed 2024 YR4, was detected by NASA's Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System on Dec. 27, 2024. According to researchers, it has about a 1-in-83 chance of im
