An updated tornado watch was issued by the NWS Wakefield VA on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m. in effect until 8 p.m. The watch is for Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Gates, Hertford, Northampton, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties.

On Wednesday at 7:56 a.m. the NWS Wilmington NC issued a tornado watch in effect until 1 p.m. The watch is for Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, Pender and Robeson counties.

NWS suggested tornadoes are possible, with wind gusts to 75 mph and isolated storms with large hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter.

Residents in Irving — where the weather service confirmed a tornado touched down on Pioneer Drive between North MacArthur and North O’Connor boulevards — reported the wind shaking their homes.
