For the uninitiated, "Elf" is about Buddy, a human who was raised by Santa's elves in the North Pole, trying to find and reconnect with his long-lost father, a business executive on Santa's naughty list played by the late James Caan, in New York City around Christmastime. Hilarity ensues.

The 2003 holiday movie revolves around Buddy (Will Ferrell), an elf working at Santa’s workshop who discovers he’s adopted. Determined to find his dad, he sets off on an adventure that takes him from the North Pole to New York City.
