A scary-looking weather forecast showing a hurricane hitting the Gulf Coast in the second half of June swirled around social media this week—but don’t panic. It’s this season’s first “ghost hurricane.
There is a greater than 50 percent chance that at least one major hurricane will make landfall in the U.S. this year.
"Showers and thunderstorms located over the Florida peninsula, the southeastern U.S. coast, the northwestern Bahamas, and the adjacent Atlantic and Gulf waters are associated with a broad trough of low pressure," the National Hurricane Center said.

Colorado State University forecasters have updated their predictions, standing firm on their forecast for an above-normal hurricane season.
Colorado State University’s forecast for above average activity this season remains unchanged in its regular June update. The report, issued June 11, maintains the university’s prediction first made in April for 17 named storms and nine hurricanes. Of the nine hurricanes, four are forecast to become major hurricanes of Category 3 or higher.
