Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report released seven Major League Baseball mock trades ahead of spring training and he involved the Mets in an intriguing one that saw Brett Baty being dealt to the Washington Nationals.

Bednar's projected market value, if the Mets were to choose to extend him, is six years, $87 million, per Spotrac. Depending on the timing of the trade, that could look like either a slight or a massive overpay, if it's the actual dollar amount of the extension he receives.

The Mets appear willing to roll the dice on Brett Baty as their everyday third baseman in 2025, a decision that carries plenty of risk. With Mark Vientos training for a potential shift to first base—contingent on whether or not Pete Alonso returns—Baty is positioned to take over at the hot corner.
