Penn State removed nearly three dozen racks containing its independent student-produced newspaper from on-campus this week because politics-related ads on the racks violated school policy.

Penn State has removed nearly three dozen racks displaying its student-produced newspaper from its campus this week. According to the Daily Collegian, Penn State's independent student newspaper, the removal was triggered by political advertisement on the newsstands,

The issue centered around the news racks that distribute The Daily Collegian’s weekly print editions. For about two years, the paper, an independent non-profit published by Collegian Inc., has sold advertisements to display on its racks around campus.

Even if it wasn’t their intention to censor the paper, they still did,” The Daily Collegian’s editor-in-chief said.

Penn State University and the Daily Collegian are fighting over what the newspaper is calling an “issue of transparency and not communicating.” On Wednesday night, the university removed all of the newspaper racks from their places on the campus.
