Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins says having veteran pitcher Max Scherzer, with his experience and compete level, raises the bar for the whole organization.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman reported Thursday that the Blue Jays are signing right-handed pitcher Max Scherzer to a one-year deal worth $15.5 million. At 40 years old, Scherzer was one of the top remaining starting pitchers available in free agency.

As the Blue Jays continue building out their 2025 roster, Toronto remains the team most likely to sign Max Scherzer.

According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, Alonso and the Mets agreed on Wednesday to a two-year, $54 million contract. The deal reportedly includes a $10 million signing bonus and an opt-out after the first year,

The Jays welcomed the future Hall of Famer into the fold on Tuesday with the official signing of the one-year pact. Scherzer will work in the starting rotation for the Jays, who are trying to overcome a last-place finish in 2024.
