Kenya's security forces have blocked all major roads leading into central Nairobi, ahead of planned nationwide protests. Much of the city centre is deserted, with businesses shut and a heavy security presence on the streets. Some schools have advised students to stay at home.

Six people are reported to have been killed after police in Nairobi opened fire on protesters. At least four people were fatally shot in the Ngong area and another two killed in the Kangemi area. More gunfire has been heard in the Githurai and Kiambu areas of the capital, as tensions remain high.
