National Guard personnel in 20 states and the District of Columbia have been activated or are on standby to aid local authorities ahead of Tuesday’s election, Pentagon officials said Monday. Around 125 National Guardsmen in 10 states have been activated for election support so far,

Many of those deployed are "cyber specialists" and civil support teams, an official said, detailing that there are no specific state orders for military law enforcement -- although some are on standby.

A few states have said they will have the National Guard on standby as a precaution for potential civil unrest on Election Day after ballot drop boxes were set on fire last week.

At least 245 National Guard personnel across 18 states, including Wisconsin, are on standby for Election Day, according to Pentagon officials. In Wisconsin, as in other states, National Guard members are likely assisting with cybersecurity efforts and standing ready to support law enforcement and first responders in case of protests or security incidents.

Pennsylvania is one of 10 states with National Guard troops on “standby” for election support, the governor’s office confirms.

Oregon and Nevada also plan on having National Guard troops on standby to assist local law enforcement on election day.

The Department of Homeland Security had previously warned that threats to election infrastructure were high this election cycle.

Washington state’s decision reflects broader concerns across the country that violence may erupt around the election.

Election cybersecurity will be bolstered by members of the Colorado National Guard after Gov. Jared Polis issued an executive order for them to do so on Monday.
