John Freeman, 37, of Midlothian, is facing a charge of theft of property valued at $300,000 or more, according to a Tuesday news release. Freeman was arrested without incident and transported to the Wylie jail, police said. It’s not immediately clear if he has an attorney.

According to the lawsuit, Hinton was “subjected to excessive force resulting in visible injuries” following his May 2 arrest by Cincinnati police. The lawsuit also states that authorities “clearly intended to intimidate” Hinton when deputies lined up in a row behind him during his May 3 arraignment in Hamilton County Municipal Court .

Police have identified the man who died after being accidentally shot while driving in downtown Huntsville on Monday afternoon. According to the Huntsville Police Department, the man was Christopher Keunta Hatcher, 24. The accident occurred on the 100 block of Jefferson Street, not far from the courthouse square, at about 12:30 p.m.

Portland police identified the 49-year-old man killed in a Sunday morning shooting in Old Town as 49-year-old Froilan Ortiz. Officers found Ortiz around 7 a.m. in an isolated side street near the Steel Bridge and Northwest Naito Parkway. The shooting was the third homicide near the Steel Bridge since the beginning of 2024.
