Sonic Unleashed finally has a native PC port, and it's been developed with a tool that could potentially help give the same treatment to any Xbox 360 game. With that, the door to one of the most exciting avenues of game preservation we've seen in ages might have been kicked open in a major way.

Xbox 360 recompilation has begun with an unofficial PC port of Sonic Unleashed. Sonic Team’s 2008 platformer launched on Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and Nintendo Wii, before a PlayStation 3 version released in 2009.

Sonic Unleashed, you know, the one where Sonic turns into a monster, is now playable on PC, but it’s not Sega’s doing. Instead, it’s thanks to the efforts of one determined modder who’s put some serious time and effort into creating a completely unofficial port.
