Amul has lodged an FIR over a ‘misinformation campaign’ that the company supplied ghee that allegedly contained ‘animal fat’ to the Tirupati Balaji temple in Andhra Pradesh, a top executive of the Gujarat-based dairy giant said on Saturday.

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets products under the Amul brand, has firmly denied supplying ghee to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the organisation managing the temple.

Police on Saturday registered a case against seven users of social media platform ‘X’ for allegedly spreading misinformation that the “low quality” ghee used for making laddus at the Tirupati temple belonged to the ‘Amul’ brand,

Amul has lodged a complaint with the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police Station against false claims made on social media, alleging that the company supplied the ghee used in the Tirupati temple's laddoos.

A senior official of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) on Saturday filed a complaint against several social media users on X for allegedly defaming Amul and spreading rumours that they had supplied the ghee to Tirupati Balaji temple that allegedly had animal fat.
