The Detroit Tigers may have the best offer on the table, but the top free agent's desire to come remains in question.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the All-Star third baseman hasn't had any new movement with the incumbent Houston Astros.

An Alex Bregman return to the Houston Astros, with whom he's spent his entire professional career to date, is back within the range of possibilities for the free-agent infielder. That's especially the case now that Jose Altuve is reportedly willing to relocate to the outfield to make room for Bregman in a Houston infield that now includes Isaac Paredes and Christian Walker.

The Detroit Tigers reportedly have competition from the Houston Astros, Alex Bregman's former team, in the pursuit for the free agent third baseman.

Former Houston Astros closer Ryan Pressly found himself in trade rumors for a couple of weeks before finally being proposed two options. By helping the Astros unload the contract, the Tigers might have hurt their own chances to sign third baseman Alex Bregman, the top free-agent hitter still on the market. Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report recently graded the offseason for the Tigers. He gave them a mediocre grade of a ‘C’, and highlighted that while they didn’t lose anyone notable, they only made two additions that weren’t extremely noteworthy.

If Houston brought Bregman back, it would create a crowded situation in the infield. They traded outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Cubs in exchange for infielder Isaac Paredes before signing free agent first baseman Christian Walker this offseason.

But the reality is that none of the teams listed are close to signing the All-Star infielder.
