LOS ANGELES — JJ Redick is midway through his first season as Lakers coach in his first NBA coaching experience. Two years before taking that job, Redick gave strong consideration towards joining Joe Mazzulla’s coaching staff in Boston after Ime Udoka’s suspension at the start of the 2022-23 season.

JJ Redick picked up arguably his biggest win in his early coaching career as the Los Angeles Laker blew out the Boston Celtics on Friday night. Redick praised the Lakers for their execution of the defensive gameplan and for good reason as they managed to hold the Celtics to only 96 points.

Lakers coach JJ Redick rejected the suggestion Adam Silver brought up about 10-minute quarters, seeing the NBA as the best league worldwide.

Mazzulla tried to hire Redick on as a Celtics assistant in September 2022. Redick has since shifted from working in the media to coaching the Lakers.

Many times after losses this season, the Los Angeles Lakers have spoken about their failures to execute the gameplans given to them by head coach JJ Redick and the coaching staff.

JJ Redick and Joe Mazzulla revealed before Thursday’s Celtics-Lakers matchup that Redick nearly joined Mazzulla’s coaching staff in 2022.
