British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday they welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's leadership in working towards a durable peace in Ukraine.

The leaders of France and Britain are both due to meet with President Trump this week. Approaches previously tried with him may no longer work.

The UK and France are ready to send peacekeepers to Ukraine, only if the United States gives guarantees of protection to this contingent, but US President Donald Trump does not give such guarantees. This was reported by the Financial Times

Speaking on a Fox News podcast on Friday, Trump said Macron and Starmer had not "done anything" to end the war. "No meetings with Russia!" he said, although he described Macron as "a friend of mine" and Starmer as "a very nice guy."
