Report: Mike Zimmer likely to retire, Cowboys plan to hire Matt Eberflus as new defensive coordinator

Mike Zimmer will not return as the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator in 2025, he tells Ed Werder. He’s expected to retire from coaching and the NFL, per the report, and the Cowboys are ‘likely’ to hire former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus to replace him.

Dallas Cowboys hire Matt Eberflus as DC with Mike Zimmer likely to retire

In addition to Eberflus, the Cowboys hired former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen as special teams coordinator, replacing John Fassel, who joined the Tennessee Titans after his contract expired. Sorensen previously worked with Schottenheimer in Seattle and Jacksonville.
