LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The Nevada National Guard has been activated for Election Day in northern and southern Nevada. Governor Joe Lombardo said in a news release on Monday that he would like a “safe and smooth” Election Day. Lombardo will activate the National Guard to support state and local resources.

Ahead of potential civil unrest due to Tuesday’s presidential election, the National Guard is on standby as a precaution in several states, including Washington state and Oregon, where hundreds of ballots were damaged or destroyed after at least three ballot drop boxes were recently set on fire,

Washington state governor Jay Inslee and Nevada governor Joe Lombardo activated their states National Guard in response to election concerns.

Oregon and Nevada also plan on having National Guard troops on standby to assist local law enforcement on election day.

Although they are presumably not going to be needed, Nevada is asking a 60 National Guard troops to be at the ready for Election Day. “After consulting with stakeholders across the state, I have decided that a precautionary activation of the National Guard makes sense at this time.

Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee has activated some Washington National Guard members to be on standby in the event they are asked to support local law enforcement and the Washington State Patrol during election week.
