Quick-service sandwich chain Subway has appointed Carrie Walsh as interim chief executive officer following the announced year-end retirement of global CEO John Chidsey. The dual-headquartered company, which launched a Miami office last year, stated Walsh will take over in January 2025.

Chidsey, the first chief executive outside of the chain’s founding family, joined Subway as CEO in 2019. His departure marks another entry on the list of fast food chain CEOs who have stepped down this year for a variety of reasons, including Starbucks, Chipotle, Shake Shack, and Wendy’s.

Chidsey will leave the company after five years, and Carrie Walsh, current president of Europe, Middle East and Africa, will serve as interim CEO.
