In his Truth Social post Trump wrote: "Despite the fact that Canada is charging the USA from 250% to 390% Tariffs on many of our farm products, Ontario just announced a 25% surcharge on 'electricity,' of all things, and your not even allowed to do that. Because our Tariffs are reciprocal, we'll just get it all back on April 2.

As of Monday, March 10, a Canadian plan to raise electricity costs by 25% went into effect in response to Trump’s tariffs, effective March 4. The electricity is sold to 1.5 million Americans, the Associated Press reported.

President Trump will not double tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum imports, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told CBS News, after Lutnick and Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Canada would suspend its new 25% surcharge on electricity exports.
