Kolkata: Junior doctors, who have been protesting against the rape and murder of a medical trainee at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital, have called off their strike partially and will resume emergency services starting Saturday.

Junior doctors in Bengal have decided to end their large-scale protest over the rape and murder of a fellow doctor at a hospital in Kolkata. They announced that they will return to work on Saturday, although with a condition: they will not participate in OPD services or attend elective operations.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier transferred Kolkata Police chief Vineet Goyal and appointed Manoj Kumar Verma in his place, while also removing the directors of medical education and health services.

The junior doctors called off their protest after the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government accepted most of the demands of the medics.
