The Ann Arbor Fire Department is warning residents to be cautious after a fire that occurred at a home Wednesday afternoon is believed to have been caused by a lithium-ion battery.

Erickson recommends disposing lithium ion batteries at the city’s household hazardous waste facility or an electronics retailer that accepts the batteries.

Beyond Poland, AE Elemental, which is equally owned by Ascend Elements and Elemental Strategic Metals, plans to build Europe’s largest lithium-ion battery recycling facility in Germany. That facility will have the capacity to recycle up to 25,000 metric tons of batteries per year, or approximately 58,000 EVs annually.

A fire broke out at a Gowanus residence Tuesday morning, injuring 12 people, according to the FDNY. The fire broke out just after 7 a.m. on 15th Street between Third and Fourth Avenues, according to officials.
