Since the turn of the 21st century, Monroe County has consistently voted for the Democratic candidate for president. The closest contest came in 2004, with John Kerry edging then-President George W. Bush by less than 10,000 votes. The widest margin was in 2020, when voters favored Joe Biden by 80,000 votes.

Polls are open in New York from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., which would give voters Tuesday some opportunity to dodge poor weather — if there was any to be found. Instead, Rochester is going to enjoy some mostly sunny skies and high temperatures well above normal for November.

With Election Day just around the corner, many Monroe County residents have already turned in their absentee voting ballots.

MONROE COUNTY — Early voting numbers are in for Monroe County, at least for the first two days. According to County Clerk Annamarie Osment, the combined voter count for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26 and 27, was 5,619. Osment added that this figure was five times the number of citizens that voted during the entirety of the primary election in August.

While the 2024 presidential race has dominated media coverage of the election, there are a number of other races further down the ballot voters in Monroe County should pay attention to ahead of Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
