Sony has updated the PlayStation website to mention that the PS2 is now at a staggering 160 million units sold worldwide since its launch 24 years ago.

Sony's PlayStation 2 is one such product, confirmed by the company to have sold a staggering 160 million units. Released on October 26th of 2000 in the US, it came after the Japanese launch in March of that same year.

For over a decade, the PS2’s official sales total sat at 155 million units, as Sony stopped reporting sales of the system in 2012. It was always assumed the final number was higher, as the console wasn’t officially discontinued until a year later,

Sony launched a website revealing PlayStation history and the company said the PlayStation 2 has officially sold over 160 million units globally.

With over 4,000 games made for the PS2, many of which would go on to become established franchises still in production, it's no wonder the console would manage such a feat of over 160 million units sold.

Sony announced this week that its PlayStation 2 console, which was already the best-selling console of all time, has crossed 160 million sales since its release in 2000.

Eurogamer reported that the PlayStation 2 remains the best-selling console of all time, with Sony confirming it has sold an impressive 160 million units since its launch in March 2000. Former PlayStation boss Jim Ryan casually stated that 160 million PlayStation 2s had been sold during his farewell appearance on the PlayStation Podcast earlier this year.
