Shares of online food delivery firm Zomato climbed nearly 4% on Monday following news that it will become a part of the BSE benchmark Sensex from December 23.

Zomato stocks surged in early trade on Monday, mirroring the stock market rally following a major announcement.

Zomato shares jumped more than 7 per cent after share holders nodded to QIP (Qualified institutional placement), of Rs 8,500 crore. Zomato also will be included in BSE's Sensex replacing JSW steel in the index.

Out of the 27 analysts that track Zomato, 24 of them have a 'Buy' rating, while the other three have a 'Sell' rating on the counter.

Zomato shares opened higher at Rs 273 against the previous close of Rs 264.15. The stock surged 7% intra day to Rs 282.85.
