Rare ‘corpse flower’ blooms at botanic garden, drawing crowds
The corpse flower is infamous for its pungent smell, which draws attention in ways few other flowers can. It only blooms once every 7-10 years, and when it does, the stench is overpowering.
When the corpse flower last bloomed at Cal Poly in 2020, around 3,000 people came to see it. The university has had two other blooms since then, but they were not open for public viewing.
