Eight people have gone on trial in Paris accused of encouraging the killer of Samuel Paty, the teacher who was beheaded on the street outside his school four years ago.

LYON, France — Eight people are going on trial in Paris on terrorism charges Monday over the beheading of teacher Samuel Paty, who was killed by an Islamic extremist after showing caricatures of Islam's prophet to his middle school students for a lesson on freedom of expression.

The trial, due to last seven weeks, will attempt to establish how responsible eight adults were in the killing of Samuel Paty, either for spreading lies online about his class or helping the future murderer in the days before.
