Poland has inaugurated its first permanent US military installation in the town of Redzikowo, located near the Baltic coast, according to a post on the Poland Ministry of Defence’s X account. This Aegis Ashore missile defence base on Polish soil has been in development since the early 2000s and is part of Nato’s broader missile defence strategy.

Russia said on Thursday that a new U.S. ballistic missile defence base in northern Poland will lead to an increase in the overall level of nuclear danger, but Warsaw said "threats" from Moscow only strengthened the argument for NATO defences.

Russia's Foreign Ministry has condemned the opening of a US missile defence base in Poland, labelling it a provocation and threatening a possible strike against the facility. In response, Warsaw dismissed Moscow's claims as inadequate.
