Emergency assistance of $750 offered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to survivors of Hurricane Helene is not a loan recipients have to pay back, the agency said in response to posts spreading the incorrect information.

President Biden has approved a major disaster declaration for Florida following Hurricane Milton’s devastation. This declaration provides federal disaster assistance to support the recovery efforts in the areas most affected by the storm.

According to Deanna Criswell, administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), “It’s [the rumors] absolutely the worst I’ve ever seen.”
