Alejandra Morales said her husband, Erik Payan, is a good man and the breadwinner of their household. She said he was arrested Monday during an ICE operation.

The development outside of Houston has long drawn the ire of Texas Republicans who claim it’s a haven for undocumented people.

Conservative state officials have previously accused the residential community north of Houston of being a safe haven for people in the country without legal status. It was not immediately clear Tuesday whether the reported number of arrests were made this week or as part of ongoing enforcement initiatives.
