Apple just started testing iOS 18.2, and it brings one of my favorite features back: the volume slider to the iPhone Lock Screen.

Don’t they say lock screens are the smartphone era’s window to the soul? Well, they should: We get to choose only one image that will greet us each time we look at our phones, so what we pick should say something.

After removing the volume slider from the iPhone's lock screen with iOS 16, Apple is finally bringing it back with the latest iOS 18.2 beta update.

With the new shortcuts, you can launch the Snapchat camera directly from the lock screen with a single tap, making it easier to capture moments before they pass. Using these controls enables iPhones to launch and take photos in “Camera Only” mode while locked, but sending or editing the snaps will still require users to unlock the device.

Snapchat users will soon be able to launch the app’s camera directly from the iPhone lock screen, thanks to an app update and the magic of iOS 18. The latest iPhone operating system update allows people to swap out the flashlight and camera on the lock screen for a diverse array of other useful tools.

To add a new shortcut to your list of options, go to the Shortcuts app, and on the "Shortcuts" tab tap the "+" (plus) sign. Now search for an action and customize the variables for the action, then save it. You can now add it to your lock screen, vastly expanding the number of features you can access from there.

OS 18 allows iPhone users to change the flashlight and camera shortcuts on the Lock Screen to something else, and Snapchat is now an option.
