The North Carolina Tar Heels’ and NC State Wolfpack’s rivalry reached a boiling point in Saturday’s rivalry football game. Emotions spilled over into a chaotic postgame altercation following the Wolfpack’s narrow 35-30 victory at Kenan Stadium.

An all-out melee broke out after the Wolfpack’s 35-30 win over the Tar Heels on Saturday. The flag-planting that started an ugly scene in Columbus was repeated in Chapel Hill and North Carolina players didn’t appreciate it any more than the Buckeyes.

The Wolfpack escaped Chapel Hill with a 35-30 victory. After the game, a brawl broke out when several Wolfpack players attempted to plant their flag at midfield. Tar Heel players took exception to this and a whole slew of staffers from both teams were seen trying to get things under control.

Wolfpack safety DK Kaufman took the “Tuffy” flag from one of the cheerleaders, trying to plant it at midfield. UNC receiver JJ Jones ran over, took the flag, then ran to the sideline and threw the flag into the benches, per The News & Observer. Kaufman and Jones then got into it.

The ACC has fined N.C. State, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech for scuffles during their rivalry games. The league announced the penalties Monday, although it did not disclose the amount of the fines.
