President-elect Donald Trump nominated Michigan Republican Chairman Pete Hoekstra to be the next U.S. ambassador to Canada. Hoekstra was a representative from Michigan for 18 years and was Trump’s ambassador to the Netherlands during his first administration.

Hoekstra, who was named chairman earlier this year, previously served as a U.S. House representative in Michigan's 2nd District and as the U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands during Trump's first term.
