Thanks for the reply. The thought is, the poop is discoloring the water. The birdbath has an electric heater with water. We dump the water every day due to the black color. We figure the bird is reasonably healthy given it flies and returns to the birdbath. It's the curiosity of it all that made me write the original comment.
