Aug 16, 2021 · I LOVE the allison transmission in our chevy trucks. The independent front suspension gives our one ton with huge 4000lb truck camper a nice smooth ride. Once you select a model/year it's critical to spend some time on forums reading up on the most common issues and their fixes. The chevy is quiet, powerful, and has a smooth ride.

I had a 2007 LBZ and ran it 350k miles. It had more issue than I’d care to admit but most were a result of other mods. Lift kit, intake, tune, exhaust, etc. Loved the truck but glad to see it go awa Now I have a 2021 Duramax w/ 10 speed Allison. I’ve got about 67k miles. No problems…..yet. It’s leaps and bounds better than my wife’s 2019.

Simple to work on, pretty reliable, decent MPG, usually decently cheap to acquire and cheap to buy parts. The one I have now is an '86 CCLB dually with a 7.3 IDI / ZF5 swap. I average 18MPG, it hauls a car just fine, really can't complain considering how cheap the truck was

Jul 14, 2022 · Cummins is the most reliable engine, ford is the toughest chassis, and gm has the best (6 speed) transmission and nicest truck all around. They all have emissions system problems. Ford has the most engine problems. Dodge has the shittiest trucks overall. GM is the way to go if you want to daily drive it. Ford is the best fleet truck by far.

I use the truck for firewood, camping trips, motocross, hauling construction supplies, furniture pickup up and removal, and general lawn maintenance. I also drive a bit from A to B. The only reason people need a big truck (2500/F250 or larger) is for hauling/towing and then you'd want a diesel over gas for the torque and the MPG on long hauls.

What are the best current gen 3/4 ton diesel trucks?
It's the most reliable, best truck I've ever owned but we want to get a larger gooseneck horse trailer which will require getting a larger truck. Obviously Toyota doesn't make a HD diesel truck otherwise there wouldn't be any question as to what truck I would get. I have no brand loyalty to GM, Ford, or Dodge.

Possible suspension issues, depending on mileage and care. Some other quirks with interior. Ford-chassis is solid, trans is solid, depending on care. Still using CP4 injection pump, but there is a better aftermarket pump now(S&S diesel). Probably the most pain in the butt to work on yourself. More of a “truck” feel compared to the others.
