The ECOWAS promotes cooperation and integration among West African states in various sectors including peace, security, and economic development.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was established in 1975 and comprises 15 Member States covering an area of 5.1 million km 2 , with a population of 308 million inhabitants as at 2015.

The ECOWAS Parliament, also known as the Community Parliament, is one of the Institutions of ECOWAS. It is the Assembly of Peoples of the Community serving as a forum for dialogue, consultation and consensus for Representatives of the people of West Africa with the aim of promoting integration.
