Oct 30, 2020 · Carfax, as has been mentioned is somewhat voluntary when it comes to dealers. I own an independent automotive repair shop and use Carfax to decipher the vin number. It is part of the garage management software. In doing this any repairs performed at my shop automatically will be reported to Carfax. I can't opt out on certain cars.

That said, my CarFax report listed an accident during the previous lease which the salesman would never have mentioned.

Jul 7, 2010 · CARFAX is essentially useless for anything other than title changes and emissions tests. Ask a GM service writer to pull the car's VIS from their database - that will give you all the GM warranty, recall, and some shop work on that car.

Dec 4, 2007 · Congrats on the purchase. Call any Cadillac dealer with the VIN # and find out if the alternator recall has been done. You can theoretically get the name of the previous owner from the title, and Carfax will generally tell you the number of previous owners and locations where the car was registered. Reply Like.
