This serotine bat arrived in our care dehydrated and lethargic. These are one of our largest species of bat in the UK and this guy weighed around 18g! Our most common bats are the pipistrelles who weigh around 5g! This 'little' guy spent a couple of weeks with us being hand fed a variety of things such as AD (specialist nutritional pet food), waxworms and rehydration fluid until he was strong enough to feed himself. A male Cape serotine bat (Laephotis Capensis) came to us via South African Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (SAWRC) in Pretoria last year October, having been found by children on a road, most likely hit by a vehicle.
