Annabelle hydrangeas are in the smooth leaf hydrangea family. They will set their new flower buds on brand new growth. If you cut your wood stems back every year, you will only have brand new stems coming up from the ground. Brand new stems don’t have a woody coating on them yet so they are very floppy. When the new big flowers come out in the summer, they are going to flop a lot. In order to avoid too much flopping. Here is how I like to prune my hydrangeas: I like to wait until my Annabelle hy

Dreaming of beautiful hydrangeas in your garden? 🌿 3 easy steps will help you achieve beautiful hydrangea blooms! 1️⃣ Amend the soil: 🌿 When the gardening season is over (or can be done in the spring), dump potting soil from your garden containers around your hydrangea. 🌿 This is still excellent soil!! It hopefully has Osmocote in it that you added as well. 🌿 Your hydrangeas will LOVE it! 🤔 Don't have any old potting soil? No problem, add some fresh potting soil or garden soil around your h

Hydrangeas can be confusing to prune, because not all hydrangeas are the same! If they don’t bloom the same, they shouldn’t be pruned the same. One of the biggest causes of leggy hydrangeas are that they haven't been trimmed properly. The head gardener at Chatham Bar's Inn taught me that the key to a well shaped, non leggy hydrangea lies in the trimming. - For old wood hydrangeas (anything not a panicle) you need to trim three leaf nodes down with a clean cut, just above that third leaf set (above next years bloom), after they have browned. - For new wood hydrangeas (limelights, panicles), you need to cut them up to 1/2 the bush size ba

How to harvest hydrangeas for a hydrangea Christmas tree ⤵️ . 🎄 DIY steps to creating a hydrangea Christmas tree: . 1️⃣ Cut your hydrangea stems just before a set of buds. . 2️⃣ Cut the blooms when they have a tissue paper feel toward the end of the growing season (August through October). I cut my hydrangeas the beginning of October. . 3️⃣ After cutting, place in a small box until you need them. 🌸 Today I am pruning my Invincibelle Spirit II - Smooth Hydrangea by Proven Winners Color Choice Flowering Shrubs. 🌸 Early spring is the perfect time to trim this hydrangea. 🌸 It blooms on NEW wood meaning the new growth from this season..🌸 Cut back about 1/3 of it’s total height in early spring, just as the new growth beings to emerge. 🌸 This hydrangea has grown very well for me. It’s starting to over take this flower bed. So I am going to give it a good trim… a bit more than 1/3 recommend

Smooth hydrangea varieties include:👇 👇👇 💕Annabelle 💕Incrediball series 💕Invincibelle series Smooth hydrangeas are one of the easiest to grow! 👏👏 Smooth hydrangeas are often white but there are blush/pink options as well. 🤍 They don’t change color based on the soil like some other hydrangeas. 🩵🩷 Smooth hydrangeas can take full sun ☀️ but do best in morning full sun (6 hours/day) or partial sun (4 hours/day.) Less sun can lead to spindly stems, too weak to support the hug
